Last week, my place of employment was treated to a visit by the current Colorado Teacher of the Year and one of the finalists of the National Teacher of the Year –Susan Elliott.
Her presentation to the group of teachers who were watching was very inspiring — she empahsized the importance of adapting in today’s educational culture. Especially with technology taking precedent.
Then she led us to this video clip her colleague at another high school produced. I was so much in-awe of that video that I shared it with the interns I supervise for the U.S. Deaflympic Media Team, and I want to share this with my Internet friends…
And after you’re done, let me know what you think…
some of these facts were freaky!!! i wonder if these technological advances will happen so fast that our lives will be a blur? kinda scary to think about.
I think it all means that people need to stop having babies. But everything these days leads me to that conclusion, because that’s what’s causing all our problems. Like the fact that India has more honors kids than we have kids? I don’t think that reflects anything bad on us at all. In fact it’s good, it means we are acctually smarter in not having as many children. And the computer stuff is terrifying. Everyone should abandon their computers right now and never look at them again! Go get a horse! If I had been/was currently being taught with MORE techonology I would implode and run away from society. So that’s what I think… But I’m a backwards ludite (redundant?) <3
What does it all mean? It means that I just wasted 4 minutes and 55 seconds watching that, and now another 3 minutes writing this comment…
But, I kid….
I think it means a lof of things.
1.) that everything that was taught when I was a kid is useless and the method of going about teaching things is outdated.
2.) that every great superpower is eventually replaced by another – and the driving force is typically population growth. Think the US replacing Great Britain – because of population growth and one expensive, long war (WWII)…Hmm seems like history might repeat itself soon.
3.) that the people who designed that have a lot of free time on their hands.
BUT….I don’t think it means that people need to stop having babies….LOL…..weirdo….
Sure gave you something to think about, right?
But as a teacher, I have to think ahead of the curve — be prepared to teach my students new things and prepare them to enter the world with open minds and eyes.
Wow!
I hope you don’t mind, but I went ahead and posted this on my blog too!
Pretty much this video reinforced my percieved notion that when it comes to technology, what you learn today may not apply to tomorrow. Kind of depressing to think in 2013 there will be a computer that surpasses the human brain!
